The Challenge

A manufacturing company needed a reliable, secure, and cost-effective solution to automate the synchronization of critical business data from on-premises systems to the cloud for disaster recovery. They required a scalable setup to handle growing data volumes while ensuring data integrity and seamless integration with their existing workflows using Seafile.

Discovery

We began the project with in-depth discovery sessions with the client to fully understand their disaster recovery needs. During this phase, we:

  • Assessed the client’s existing on-premises data storage and backup processes.
  • Identified key requirements for automating data synchronization to the cloud, focusing on security, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluated the suitability of Seafile for integration with AWS S3 in their workflow.
  • Reviewed the client’s existing IT infrastructure to ensure compatibility with AWS best practices for disaster recovery.

The findings were consolidated into a Gap Analysis Report, along with a proposed solution architecture and a detailed Remediation Plan to address the identified challenges.

Onboarding

After finalizing the project scope and solution design, we initiated the onboarding process, which included:

  • Installing and configuring Seafile on the client’s on-premises systems to manage automated data synchronization tasks.
  • Setting up the dedicated AWS S3 bucket with lifecycle policies, versioning, and access controls as identified in the Gap Analysis Report.
  • Implementing encryption protocols for secure data transfer and configuring IAM policies to restrict access to authorized users and systems.
  • Conducting workshops with the client’s team to ensure they were proficient in using Seafile, monitoring data synchronization activities, and managing AWS S3 configurations.

This phase ensured a smooth transition to the new disaster recovery system, aligning all stakeholders with the operational workflows and security protocols.

Optimisation & Advisory

As part of our continued engagement with the client, we provide ongoing consultative services as a Cloud Subject Matter Expert (SME) to optimize their AWS environment for performance, cost efficiency, and scalability. Our services include:

  • Cost and Usage Analysis: Monitoring and analyzing AWS usage patterns to recommend cost optimization strategies, including S3 lifecycle policy adjustments and storage class optimization.
  • Data Lifecycle Management: Advising on effective lifecycle policies to archive infrequently accessed data to S3 Glacier for significant cost savings.
  • Architectural Enhancements: Suggesting improvements to the synchronization workflow for increased reliability, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Service Recommendations: Identifying AWS services or tools to further enhance disaster recovery capabilities and operational effectiveness.

We provide the client with regular reports, which include:

  • Key performance metrics for synchronized data transfers and storage utilization.
  • Insights on operational activities, events, and any incidents impacting data integrity or performance.
  • Strategic recommendations for optimizing platform usage and infrastructure.
  • Detailed breakdowns of AWS costs by services and categories for clear accountability.

This holistic approach ensures that the client’s AWS environment continuously aligns with their business objectives and disaster recovery requirements.
